Kristen McLehose|| Our August 2014 HPS BELIEVER
Kristen McLehose is our August "Believer" and boy does she fit the bill. With a smile that lights up any room, Kristen impersonates everything we love in our Hot Pilates Secret "Believers".
As a devoted Believer, Kristen has been coming to HPS for over 8 years, and has been through it all right along side us. We are so proud to introduce our August Hot Pilates Secret "Believer", Kristen McLehose.
Grace: How did you first hear about the Hot Pilates Secret?
Kristen: I heard about the Hot Pilates Secret from my very good friend Toni, I met her through my husband many years ago. It's a funny little story... We were out to lunch one day and I was telling her how I never work out, so she told me about Pilates and I said I would go. I didn't want to go but I told her I would do it so I had to show up. I went kicking and screaming, with a smile on my face of course, and absolutely loved it!
G: It's funny because they say you need to go to at least 3 or 4 HPS classes to see if you want to continue and like it.
K: Very true. In the beginning I went to the first class and Beth was like, "So how'd you like it? and I said " I liked it!", a little tongue and cheek, I could barely touch my toes. And Beth goes "you'll be back." and I said, "you know what, once a week I can do it!" And she did that Beth look and goes, "one class will not be enough." I got out to my car and i'm laughing thinking, "she's funny, she doesn't know me." Next thing I know I'm hooked, she knew me better then I knew myself.
G: Was that at the old studio years ago?
K: That was about 8 years ago, in the basement studio.
G: Any fond memories of that basement?
K: It helped me realize things that I didn't even know myself. Every class was interesting, every single class was fun. Through this class I got to really know who I am. I can't really say specific fond memories, because all of them were.
G: How has HPS affected your life?
K: The real question is how has it not affected my life. I'm calmer, I think before I speak ( I try to anyway!) I take life with a grain of salt and i'm not as serious anymore. One thing Kaley has taught me when were in class and were just trying to finish the rep she says "it's just 5 minutes of your life!" I think of that statement every single day, because there is a ton of stuff that's difficult day to day and that one statement gets me through it.
G: What have you learned here on your mat that you take out into your life?
K: Just to try and stay calm. This grounds me, it makes me calmer, and makes me think before acting. I always lived my life acting first. It just gave me that calming effect, and of course, I feel better about my body... I can touch my toes! I used to not be able to touch them believe it or not.
G: Describe your relationship with Beth.
K: I can't even describe what she meant to me. Beth taught me to breathe. When I first met her, I never realized how often I held my breath. In general, not just in class- in life. To this day, when I need it most, I hear her voice telling me to breathe. So I breathe and I always smile. It's very strange to meet someone who,and look at them and see yourself, in a sense and see all the things that I wanted to be, and strived to be. She absolutely changed my life with this class, and with her caring and just being there. I went though a really difficult time in my life and she was there for me, and she checked in on me all the time. As she did with many people, Beth would text me to see if I was going to class... With just a simple gesture, a text, she made me feel special and it was always the gentle nudge I needed to make time for myself and go to class. And the bonus was coming out of class feeling amazing, every. single. time. As the song says, She made a home for us. She's like right up there with my own mom; she's very special to me. I feel her everyday. There are times when Kaley's teaching, and I close my eyes, and I swear she's there. Not just present in the room but she's there, in Kaley. Sometimes the way Kaley will hold her hand I just get a glimpse of Beth and it's just so nice.
When you don't see Kristen on her mat, she's adventurously snowboarding, sometimes dabbling in water skiing, and working as a Inside Sales Representative for a computer reseller.
